Two separate bus accidents in Nassau County killed two people and injured nine others.
The first tragic accident occurred when a bus driver swerved to avoid hitting a pedestrian and ran into a home on Long Island. A 6-year old boy inside the home was killed and the pedestrian suffered multiple fractures. Eight bus passengers were also injured. In the second accident, a transit bus hit and killed a 35-year old pedestrian.
Officials are investigating both accidents, but they do not believe foul play was involved. There will likely be no criminal charges. How, then, can the family of the young boy and the deceased pedestrian find consolation after their losses? Through personal injury lawsuits.
Nothing can bring a loved one back or heal the pain, but it is often necessary to seek compensation for the financial losses a family has suffered in order to begin the healing process. Of course, the prospect of bringing a lawsuit in the midst of so much pain is harrowing. That is where a personal injury lawyer comes in. An attorney can take the legal burden off a family's shoulders by handling all of the paperwork, negotiations with insurance companies and, if necessary, arguments in court.
Through a wrongful death lawsuit, a family may be able to recover compensation for medical expenses, funeral expenses, loss of income, pain and suffering, loss of consortium and other economic and noneconomic damages. Learn more by visiting our pages on motor vehicle accidents.
